Using an outline bit
In a multi-stage carve, you can assign a dedicated outline bit to cut your outline paths. Before, Easel used the detail bit for all outline cuts, which could lead to slow carves or broken bits. Now you can choose a separate, sturdier bit (like a 1/8" or 1/4" end mill) for outlines.
With an outline bit, your carve has three toolpaths: Roughing, Detail and Outline. You no longer need to duplicate workpieces or manually hide shapes.
Which cuts use the outline bit
The outline bit is assigned automatically to any shape with its Cut Path set to:
- On shape path
- Outside shape path
- Inside shape path
Pockets are still carved by your roughing and detail bits.
Adding an outline bit
- Load or create a project with roughing and detail passes.
Click the + next to your Detail Bit and choose Outline Bit.
- An Outline Bit tab (1) appears in the settings bar. Click it, then choose your bit from the drop-down (2).
Review the Cut Settings (3) and the Toolpaths options (4) for the outline pass.
- Click Simulate to preview your carve. The outline pass appears as an orange toolpath.
- When you carve or download G-code, choose Outline Pass when selecting which toolpath to run.
To remove the outline bit, click the × on the Outline Bit tab.
| Helpful Tip: The outline bit is available to all Easel users. No Pro subscription is required. |
