A group cutout adds one cutout outline around a whole group of shapes. You can build a more complex design from simple shapes, cut it out as a single piece, and still edit each shape inside the group.
Adding a group cutout
- Select the shapes you want to combine (1).
- Right-click and choose Group (2), or press ⌘G (Ctrl+G on Windows).
- With the group selected, open the Cut tab (3).
- Check Add cutout for group (4).
Shapes with a depth are combined into the cutout. Shapes with zero depth are left out of it.
Group cutout options
1. Add cutout for group
Cuts around the outside of the whole group. The shapes inside the group are still carved at their own depths.
2. Ignore inner shapes
Cuts only the group's outer outline. The shapes inside the group stay in your design, shown with a striped fill, but they aren't carved.
Once the cutout is on, the Cut tab also shows Add Depth (Easel Pro) and Use Tabs, which work the same way as they do for a single shape. See How To Use Tabs.
Editing shapes inside the group
Double-click any shape inside the group to move or edit it without breaking the group. The cutout updates to match.
| Helpful Tip: Want an outline that isn't a cutout, or one set a distance away from your shapes? Use Offset and Outline Shapes instead. |
