The Cabinet Maker App lets you build a cabinet from sheets of plywood. Design your cabinet, see it in 3D, and Easel lays out every panel on 48" x 48" sheets, ready to carve.
Opening the Cabinet Maker App
Click the Apps icon (1) in the left toolbar, then choose Cabinet Maker (2). You can also find it under More Apps in the App Library, in the Featured category.
The Cabinet Maker window
1. Settings tabs
The settings are split across three tabs: Cabinet, Fronts and Material & Finish. Each one is described below. The 3D preview updates as you change settings.
2. Explode and Wireframe
Click Explode to pull the panels apart and see how they fit together. Click Wireframe to see through the panels, including the joinery and drilled holes. You can use them on their own or together.
3. Panel and sheet summary
The line under the preview shows how many panels your cabinet has and how many 48" x 48" sheets of each material and thickness you'll need.
4. Import Cabinet
Click Import Cabinet. Easel creates a workpiece for each sheet, with the panels, dados and holes already laid out for a 1/4" upcut bit.
Settings tabs
Cabinet
- Cabinet Type: Choose a wall cabinet (plain, blind corner or 90° corner) or a base cabinet (doors, drawers, drawer & door, sink base, blind corner or 90° corner).
- Width, Height and Depth: The outside size of the cabinet.
- Adjustable Shelves: The number of shelves. Check Drill shelf pin holes to drill holes for shelf pins, and Full-depth shelves to make the shelves run the full depth of the cabinet.
- Toekick: Adds a recessed base. Set its height with Toekick Height.
- Joinery: How the box panels join, such as Butt joints or blind dados.
- Back: How the back panel fits (inset, dadoed or overlay). For an inset back, Inset sets how far in it sits. Check Nailers to add nailer strips.
Fronts
- Include door: Adds doors to the cabinet.
- Swing, Fit and Gap: Which way the doors open, how they sit on the box (for example Overlay), and the gap around them.
- Drill hinge cup holes: Drills the holes for cup hinges.
- Front Style: Flat panel, shaker or glass. For shaker fronts, set the Border Width and Panel Depth.
- Drawer Depth: How deep the drawer boxes are. Check Slide mounting holes to drill holes for drawer slides, or False front to make a drawer front that doesn't open, such as on a sink base.
- Handles: Choose knobs, pulls or none. Easel places them and drills the holes.
Material & Finish
- Box Material, Door & Drawer Front Material and Drawer Box Material: The material and thickness for each part. Drawer boxes can use stock as thin as 1/2". Each material is laid out on its own sheets.
- Box Finish and Door & Drawer Finish: The color and Sheen shown in the preview.
| Important: The imported sheets are laid out for a 1/4" upcut bit. Use that bit when you carve. |
