The Lake Map App lets you search lakes by name and carve a depth map. Easel draws the shoreline and adds up to five depth passes as stepped pockets, so the finished carve looks like a scale model of the lakebed.
Where depth data is available, the map uses real depth measurements, not a stylized outline. A deep lake like Tahoe carves with steep walls, while a wide, shallow lake like Okeechobee carves with gentle steps.
Opening the Lake Map App
Click the Apps icon (1) in the left toolbar, then choose Lake Map (2). You can also find it under More Apps in the App Library.
Creating your lake map
1. Find your lake
Type the lake's name in the Lake box, then choose it from the results. Each result shows the state or province, country and coordinates, so you can tell lakes with the same name apart. Click the × to clear your search.
2. Choose your options
- Outline only: Carves just the shoreline, without the depth pockets.
- Depths: Shows where the lake's depths come from. Simulated means real depth data isn't available for that lake, so Easel estimates the depths.
- Include islands: Keeps the lake's islands in the design.
- Include name & compass: Adds the lake's name and a compass star to the design.
Click the ? next to any option to learn more about it.
3. Check the preview
The preview shows the shoreline, islands and compass before you add the map to your project.
4. Import the map
Click Import. The whole design is added to your project as a grouped stack, ready to carve.
