With Easel Pro, you can turn on ramping for each bit in a workpiece. Instead of plunging straight down, the bit ramps into the material at an angle along the toolpath. This puts less force on the bit as it enters the material, which can help it last longer and break less often. In a simulation, you can see the bit ramp in at each entry point (1).
Turning on ramping
- Open the Bit menu.
- Under Toolpaths, click Plunge (1).
- Choose a ramp (2):
- Ramp 20° for soft woods, plywood and MDF-type materials.
- Ramp 5° for hardwoods and soft metals like aluminum.
To turn ramping off, choose Vertical.
Ramping applies to every shape carved with that bit, including pockets carved with offset or raster toolpaths, and outline cuts.
