Easel and Easel Pro support a variety of bits. Below you will find the options available:
Easel | Easel Pro |
Flat Endmills | Flat Endmills |
Upcut Bits | Upcut Bits |
Downcut Bits | Downcut Bits |
Compression | Compression |
V-bits | |
Ballnose Bits (3D in Easel Pro only)* |
Ballnose bits will only show up in 3D in Easel Pro under the finishing bit section.
*NOTE: You can use normal flat-end mills for 3D roughing passes. For 3D Finishing passes, we recommend using ball nose end mills. Right now, the toolpaths are optimized for normal ball nose, but will work well with other bits. We have seen early success running finish passes with V-bits, tapered ball nose, as well as even end mills.
The toolpaths generated will work with tapered ballnose, or 20 degree V bits. You just have to enter them as "other bit" and enter the diameter.
You can add custom bits using the Toolbox (Easel Pro only) or the "Other" custom section in the Bit dropdown. If you use "Other", this bit won't be saved to your toolbox.
Designing in 2.5d Easel cannot yet create tool paths for a ball nose or round nose endmills. You can set the bit as a straight end-mill bit when working with Easel. You can alter the stepover to try and get a smoother finish. You can try decreasing the stepover % so that each pass is closer together. You can get to the stepover setting by going to Machine > General Settings:
