What is firmware?
Firmware is the software on your machine's controller that turns Easel's instructions into motion. Easel works with machines running the firmware listed below.
Which firmware does Easel support?
GRBL
GRBL is a free, open-source firmware used to control the motion of machines. Easel currently supports these GRBL versions:
- Grbl 1.1h
- Grbl 1.1g
- Grbl 1.1f
- Grbl 1.1e
- Grbl 1.0c
- Grbl 1.0b
- Grbl 0.9j
- Grbl 0.9i
- Grbl 0.9g
- Grbl 0.8c
GRBL ESP32
A version of GRBL for controllers built on ESP32 boards.
FluidNC
An open-source firmware for ESP32-based controllers.
grblHAL (Beta)
An open-source firmware based on GRBL that runs on a wide range of controller boards. Support for grblHAL is in beta.
How do I find out which firmware my machine has?
If your machine is Arduino-based, chances are it's running GRBL. If you're not sure, reach out to your machine provider and ask for the firmware and version.
| Helpful Tip: If your machine is already connected to Easel, open Machine > Machine Inspector. The firmware version is shown in the top-left corner. |
